hi all,

This may be a dumb question, so hear me out first... Roll Eyes

I don't have a hitch installation on my Subaru, however over the weekend I thought about something. Every car comes with towing hook that you generally use when you are in a ditch or to pull someone from a ditch. Now what if there was a hitch receiver that you can screw in the same spot as the towing hook? Would that work to carry the keg?

Anyone ever seen a hitch receiver that can be screwed in the vehicle frame? Tried to google, but haven't found anything that would work...obviously I don't plan on pulling anything using a setup like that...strictly for keg purposes... Grin

Yeah...I figured that it might be too heavy...Installing a hitch is not an option(yet), as I lease my cars for short term periods...however I might come to the conclusion and assume the cost eventually...plus I could use it as a bike rack for the family...I wanted to see what others do when they want to bring their keg for a ride  Cheesy

Try asking if you can have a hitch added as an option. If you do business with the same business a lot maybe they'll do it for you. Never know unless you ask.

Correct, but too late for that, I already have my vehicle for a while now...

I don't know where you're at Caveman but uHaul intstalls hitch receivers on all kinds of cars. You only need a 1 inch receiver

The Curt line of hitches cost about $150 - 200 dollars. You can bolt them on yourself. I've bought three of them over the years. Plus you can use it for other things, like a basket or bike rack.

Thanks for the suggestions...will depend if I keep my car at the end of the lease or return it to the dealership...I realize I could install non-OEM hitches, but I was looking for a less permanent solution in case I return the car...

cheers,

You could also get one of the little Akorns, not the same quality but then it is portable....

I got mine for $99 or $150 don't remember.

This looks great...however they seem to be either discontinued or stopped distributing to Canada...can't find it anywhere. Anyhow...it's low priority right now. If I ever find it and the price is like you say I might consider buying.

thanks.

There was a thread that said they were reviving it Feb 2016.
Maybe chargriller might sell old stock direct.  I would not spend a lot on them.  I've used mine maybe twice.

I got nothing cave, the best solution is a hitch or trailer which returns to the hitch. I can't figure any other way short of disassembling it and packing the whole thing inside.

I had an elaborate solution to go up in the woods. I mounted a hitch in a carrier so it could pivot out.
It's somewhere in the old stuff.
