No way...no how...

« on: May 20, 2016, 04:40:56 PM »

After 2 years of many cooks my Maverick grill temp probe failed.

I looked at Amazon for a replacement.  The original ones were fairly expensive.

I found a pair at a much lower cost, (less than on EBay).

http://smile.amazon.com/Accuon-ACU0235-Replacement-Probes-Thermometer/dp/B017JWPX58?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

They come with a plastic insert at the cable crimp area that might help with moisture going into the probe.

I still sealed with High Temp RTV to make sure.

Looks like a great deal, thanks! Have you checked their accuracy?

Only plugged in at room temp...that checked out.

Next cook is a week away...I'll update then.

Ordered it and received it yesterday and put on my 732 to check and both said the same as my room temp.

Forgot to update.

New probe not only matches others from the 732 and 733 units....but, also match the new unit from Thermoworks (SMOKE).  Note not using replacement probe on "SMOKE" only matching readings.

How do you like the Smoke unit? I'm thinking of buying a unit to replace my 732, but I wanted to get some "in the field" test data...

I bought a Smoke. I use it Sunday on a tri tip. It works great and is super easy to program.

Works great and much easier to set than Maverick.

Has some quirks with high/low alarms and with no prob warning.

No easel stand for receiver only cord to go over your neck or hang some place.

BIG PLUS ....Probes are water proof...no need to seal ends.

Magnet on back of sender unit so it will be out of the way on the Keg and not get knocked off a side shelf.

I know I have asked before but how accurate do you really need? I have kinda decided +/- 2ºF is fine. Thoughts?
