Title: What's Cookin' on the Keg for Thanksgiving This Year?
Post by: Cajunate on November 24, 2019, 05:04:43 AM

Anybody here cooking, grilling or smoking anything on the Keg for Thanksgiving?

Of course we'll be having turkey but I'm not sure how they want it cooked here yet. I do have a small ham I might do on the Keg here.

I'm hosting this year but my mother in law is bringing the bird.

Going to use my keg as a supplemental oven with a little smoke.  Going to have a ham and Mac  n Cheese cooking it in to free up some oven space.

Will be too far from my keg to use this year but plan on getting a fresh turkey in December to brine and smoke.

Will be doing a Spiral Sliced Ham....coated with Mango Pineapple Jam and Oakridge BBQ Secret Weapon Pork & Chicken Rub.

Hickory and Cherry Smoke at low temp to slowly heat the ham.

I did a Root Beer and Cane Syrup glazed ham on the Keg and the turkey was done in the oven low and slow overnight. Both came out fantastic!

Dang!! Cajunate both of those look really good. I've never done low and slow turkey, what temp did you run at?

Turkey was done in the oven indoors. Start  by heating the oven to 450 then put the bird in for about 20 minutes to get golden brown. This seals the outer skin to keep in juices. Reduce oven temp to 225 and leave in oven for about 30 minutes per pound. I usually do this about 11:00-midnight and then go to bed. Never fails that I wake up about twice and check on it. In the morning check the internal temp and remove when done. Easy! Always done with enough time to get other baking needed to be done. Family loves this and the whole house smells fantastic!
