Title: Kegtoberfest 2015!
Post by: Cajunate on November 06, 2014, 08:48:28 PM
Yes, you are reading this correctly.
Kegtoberfest 2014 was such an overwhelming success with perfect weather and everyone who came had such a great time that we're going to do it all over again next October at the Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro Alabama. I had people telling on the Saturday of our get together that they were having such agreat time that they wanted to go back if we did it again. What can I say? How do you mess with success?

Since it worked so well I decided to start early and get a jump on planning and I have reserved the lodge again to have the event right where we had it this year. I have decided to extend next year's event by one day starting on Thursday Oct. 22, thru Sunday Oct. 25, 2015. If anyone wants to arive on Friday that's fine but I will tell you that time passes quickly and you end up wishing you had another day before having to leave for home.

I know many will question having it again in the same area as opposed to moving it further north so more can attend. If I could have exactly what we had in Scottsboro anywhere else I would have it elsewhere but like I said everything there worked perfectly.

I have asked Kelly Richardson at Goose Pond to hold the lodge under my name(Nathan)for any who want to reserve a lodge room. Cottages are available and maybe someone who stayed in one this past year can tell you more about them. I suggest if you think you are interested in attending next year's event that you call and reserve your accommodations as soon as possible. Staying at Goose Pond is about as good as it gets. If you wait to long you may have to end up staying at a motel in town about ten minutes away. That's not bad but I can't tell you how much nicer it is to be within walking distance of the event.

Call Megan at the Goose Pond Colony and get your reservations in early.
If you have any problems making your reservation mention my name(Nathan)or Kegtobberfest 2015.

Only if you don't want me to attend KF because I will be in prison for murdering a 73 year old in his sleep.

A year of teasing would do me in.

I don't have a year's worth of tease material...

You have to give me something new to tease about....PINK is worn out.

And that lite smiley face charging cord should keep the past tease alive for awhile ;D

Just reserved a cottage. We stayed in one this year. One of the Ranch cottages. Going to try an A frame for next year. The cottages are really nice. it looks like they were remodeled within the last year or so. Plenty of room

Yeah, I talked to Kelly yesterday about Megan telling people that I had the whole lodge booked. Lol..... I have it in my name to make sure KF attendees can get reservations. I think it's the same for the cottages.

Might talk my other son into joining us and maybe Chris will come in from Dallas. It does appear I'm safe though but I see Larry is at the top of the hit list.

I will also admit that on Saturday I went back to the cottage and took a 45 min nap  ;)

Larry I'll suggest adding Limoncello (lemon) to your libation station, has to be kept on ice though. I like my home made Lime-cello and I'll provide a recipe if requested (no citrus fruit is safe once you know how to make it) but I can't bring it on the plane. The recipe involves 190 proof vodka .... ends up about 70 proof

Using a vegetable peeler, remove the peel from the lemons in long strips (reserve the lemons for another use). Using a small sharp knife, trim away the white pith from the lemon peels; discard the pith. Place the lemon peels in a 2-quart pitcher. Pour the vodka over the peels and cover with plastic wrap. Steep the lemon peels in the vodka for 4 days at room temperature.

This we can make at the FEST's semi official Kitchen

Stir the water and sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes. Cool completely. Pour the sugar syrup over the vodka mixture. Cover and let stand at room temperature overnight. Strain the limoncello through a mesh strainer. Discard the peels. Transfer the limoncello to bottles. Seal the bottles and refrigerate until cold, at least 4 hours and up to 1 month.

It's a great palate cleanser after eating. Just serve chilled no ice.

No it's a Italian lemon liqueur that can be used to make cocktails or sipped straight but chilled. Thus why I keep mine in the fridge and a bottle of Hornitos in the freezer.

So is that mixed with vodka?

You can make your own using HIGH PROOF Vodka or 100% proof grain alcohol.

Limoncello is considered the national drink of Italy.

Google, Limoncello, like I did for information....I never heard of it before this.

I learn something new every day!

I like to make it with lime peels ... Lime-cello and I've made it with lemons. I want to try Orange-cello and Grapefruit-cello. I'm thinking I should be able to bring some of my homemade stuff in checked baggage just not carry on.

This is the recipe that got me started:
Quote
10 lemons - peal skin only, no white
1 liter pure spirit (95%)
Put lemon peel in spirit in non-reactive container. Leave for at least three weeks moving occasionally.
After three or more weeks- Take 3 pints of warm water and dissolve two and a half pounds of sugar until clear. Allow to cool and then mix with lemon peel and spirit. Leave for two weeks. Strain out peel and bottle. Put bottle in freezer for a few hours. It should come out like a syrup when pouring.
But the first step really only needs 5 days. I've also tried Everclear for the base, I prefer using high proof vodka but it's splitting hairs.

I keep mine in the freezer. I'll post it next time I do a batch.

Hey Larry! I stopped in at the local supermarket which has a great liquor dept. andas I was moseying down the isle look what I found.
I decided to grab a bottle to give it a try. Not too bad. Definitely has a bit of a whiskey barrel taste to it.

(http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x475/Cajunate/Best%20Homemade%20Chili%20Yet%202013/Best%20Homemade%20Chili%20Yet%202013/67035031-5865-40b0-b8a5-23464b9df411.jpg)

Out visiting my wife for the afternoon.

If it says Whiskey Barrel, then it must be part of the drink.  Is it as good as the regular one you were using?

Good. That's where all the action happens. These cottage peeps don't realize it but after they mozie on down to their cottage to go cuddle with their teddy bears for the night, the party really gets rolling. They miss out on some good stuff.

You didn't visit the night action at the cottages...More went on than you know about.

The real party is at the cottages  :-*

Caravella
A bottle of this is easier than making.

Okay, I booked the same cabin Thursday, for Thurs-Sat nights for a replay of fest 2014.  Can't wait.
Getting primed already.
So what's the recipe, I mixed two parts Caravella to one part Titos.  Does that sound right?  It is a good pallet cleanser.
Just finished a salad & grilled chicken with al fredo.  Life is good.

I don't think you mix the Caravella....you drink it straight COLD/from the Freezer.

The recipe was to make your own Limoncello with 100% Vodka.

But, than again, a little of TITOS Fine Corn Vodka would be good to add to any drink  :D

Look for other brands of Potato...Chopin, Teton Glacier, Monopolowa, Vikingfjord, Blue Ice

I've had the Chopin and Teton Glacier.  Both slightly sweeter than the Luksosowa.

Yea, Steph doesn't know what went on at the cottages Friday-Saturday nights.
Larry & his crew, Billsfan & family, Bamabob & Bamapat partied on, just didn't want to make the drive too late in the night.

I pulled into the wrong cottage at least 3 times.  I didn't realize it until I walked up on the back deck and realized that the deck furniture was arranged differently or the deck was the wrong size.  One was even an A-frame, we were in a ranch.   ;D ;D ;D ;D  I had too much fun.   :o :o :o :o

Ok, my fellow keg brothers and sisters. This may be a little early but what the hell. I mean, we've already booked something a year in advance so...........what's the menu? LOL

Since we've gotten a MASSIVE head start on the date, the rooms, Caj acquiring things, Larry's libations, why not figure out the grub?

Maybe we do it buffet style, maybe we keep it under control so there's not SO MUCH to eat that only nibbles get eaten of each thing. We could've fed a small country with Nate's gumbo and Jambalaya alone :D :P

So, who wants to step up and get this puppy rollin' ?

Is there much in the way of grocery stores in the area or should I pick up stuff in Huntsville? I can pack dry spices and the like but anything 'frigerated I'll need to get down there. I want SO bad to walk into a Wal-Mart and just grab a packer like it was nuthin!!  Heck I'll take 2! :D

There is almost a whole year of cooking ahead and maybe some new things to try ... might want to change our mind ... or just cook more and more.

I know, we can send excess leftovers to local homeless shelters .. wait, do you have those in Alabama? We need them up here, people freeze to death. Nm, Google found me a website directory of homeless shelters for Alabama.  :)

Since me and  the boss are having wings tonight, I think we oughtta cook up some for the fest! Throw wings on the menu Mr. Nate! I am thinking about 200 wings should do the trick. I'll need more than one keg to pull that off!

We don't have a head count yet.  200 of your tasty wings would only feed a few of us  :D

If 20 people are there, that gives us 10 each. If there's more than 20, then we may need to reevaluate this whole wing thing!

We had crawfish boudin and regular. On the Keg, they were both delicious!

I'm supposed to be headed to Cajun country tomorrow and I usually stop and pick up several different boudin along with andouille and tasso. I hope to get some fresh cracklins too!

Would love to but I'll have to see how it goes next summer. Its an expensive trip for just me (meaning without the family). Kids won't last in the car that long.

Would like to see one started farther north for us northern and Canada keggers.

Really hoping to cook the jack too!

You will do it Alex.  I couldn't find the dates for JDI 2015, but if it is the same weekend as K'fest 2015 you'll be in the area anyway, you have to stop in.
Sure hope you can make it, all your cooks were incredible   :P :P :P
And what a pleasure it was to meet you and spend time together with fellow keggers.

Calgary Keg Augtober fest? For the best chance at shorts and sandals weather. Late Oct could mean toques, mitts, jackets and snowshoes. :)  Name isn't quite as catchy though.

Ya a northern Kegfest would need to be in the summer!

I couldn't come any earlier than Friday morning since my daughters birthday was Thursday.  2015 it will be on Friday.  That's going to make this a tough trip to make.   :'(

Sorry! I meant to post this last night but I got distracted and was unable to think clearly. ;D

The BIG news is that next year at Kegtoberfest 2015 Rich and Broil King are doing something super special.
One lucky person will leave Scottsboro AL being the owner of a brand new Broil King Keg 5000 Package!!!

The package will include the newest version of the Broil King Keg 5000(of course), a cover, tool set, difuser setup, BK Lump charcoal and chances are there will be more included in the package as time passes. No, you are not still sleeping and dreaming! This is real and confirmed as of yesterday afternoon.

Now at the same time we, meaning all of us in the Keg community will also be helping out an organization that does a phenominal job of helping first responders and others in a time of need during and after disasters. I'm talking about the organization of those dedicated individuals that travel allover the United States to provide hot meals and compassion after times of natural disasters. Of course you probably know I'm talking about Operation BBQ Relief.  http://operationbbqrelief.org/

Yes, the Broil King Keg 5000 Package will be raffled at Kegtoberfest 2015! But, that doesn't mean you shouldn't bring your Keg to Kegtoberfest because the new package will be shipped directly to your home. Tell your fellow Keggers not to miss out on the opportunity to win a complete Keg 5000(and possibly more) and you or they will be set for some awesome grilling and smoking.

More details will be available soon!

Although very South, I don't think Florida is the place for "Authentic Southern Barbecue"  ;)

If you go to Miami the food most likely have a Cuban taste.

When thinking about your vacation plans for 2015, why not consider a destination such as Orlando, New Orleans, or Nashville and include Scotsboro, [Edit: Alabama] on the itinerary.  Imagine one week or so in any one of these popular vacation destinations followed by a long weekend at Goose Pond Colony Resort!

I recall seeing a fair amount of "liquid" intake by you as well though, lol. The food was just overwhelming. We ALL just really ate like pigs and to be honest I hope that we learned a lesson from it. I think future KFs we need to make it more organized as far as what we eat and when we eat it. For those that couldn't make it, it was like a buffet of wonderful kegged food. There was SO MUCH food that you simply could NOT taste what everybody made because you couldn't hold anymore food. I didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings so I overate to the extreme to the point I was actually sick! These guys and gals can cook. If you've ever wondered if the food they post here tastes as good as it looks, the answer is YES!

Title: Re: Kegtoberfest 2015!

Title: Re: Kegtoberfest 2015!
Post by: Cajunate on February 09, 2015, 11:44:37 AM
Yeah, my challenges were from alcohol consumption too but I think moreso from the eating marathon. Then too I was really exhausted from the five days before of running around getting stuff, loading the trailer and truck and hoping it would all come together. That's why I stayed an extra day to unwind before driving home to unload again. I loved it! ;D ;D

Quick question how far from nearest airport to event?

Scottsboro is served by Huntsville Intl Airport (Huntsville, AL)

Also near Chattanooga, and Nashville TN

Atlanta, GA is not really near but might have a better flight schedule.

My daughter came from Portland, OR to Nashville as the best for her to KFEST2014.

Since we are having an extra day, there should be a breakdown of meal times and snack times.  Then a menu of who is making what for a selected time.

We could start with who would like to cook what.  Then break it down to what meal/snack it would be for.

This will allow max use of KEGS that will be at the FEST and not too much food all at once.

Really looking forward to this years Kegfest.  Last year my mother died a little over a week before the fest, the fest was a nice respite.

Let's see, as I recall, (it's still foggy), the early arrivals on Thursday went to the Docks for supper, Friday was steak & scallops night, cajun and all kinds of other stuff, Saturday was an all out pig fest.

The only thing I can think of to improve upon that is to make Thursday pizza and wings night!!!

Cleaning up for our first contest of the year.  Found a cooler from KF2014.  Still had a 1/2 case of water bottles, 2 half empty glass bottles of BBQ sauce (Smokey Jons and Salt Lick) and one OPENED plastic jar of the bbq sauce I brought to KF.  Spilled all over the bottom of the cooler.  Sat in the garage since last october.

That cooler needed a good scrubbing!

A little over a year ago right about now the first ever organized Keg get together came into fruition and plans began for Kegtoberfest 2014. It was such a success and everyone had such a great time I decided to do it again this year. Make your plans now to attend Kegtoberfest 2015 October 22-25, 2015. Call and make your reservations before it's too late to saty at the Goose Pond Colony.

Please pm me to let me know if you plan to attend.

I know I asked peopleto post whether or no no they plan o attend Kegotoberfest 2015 but can you please pm me so I can get a better idea without the other comments included. A count of who and how many would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

Anyone who hasn't been to our Kegtoberfest should really considder joining us. You will love the great people you get to meet in person and absolutely enjoy the food you get to eat. I don't really know if a real $$ value can be put on a Kegtoberfest. If accomodations aren't available at Goose Pond Colony they are easily available 15 minutes away. That might be a good thing. Lol......

What I mean is if you considered the great food and time had by all it's really a bargain!!!!! And this year there is the potential for a really super great price for anyone attending.

Started to design this years T-Shirt.

Waiting for a Keg 5000 image...but for now this is an early proof

(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/focuspuller2/Kegtoberfest%20t%20shirt%202015_zpslgtztr6g.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/focuspuller2/media/Kegtoberfest%20t%20shirt%202015_zpslgtztr6g.jpg.html)

Trying to have a on-line order form so each can order their own.

The 6 Lodge Rooms go fast...and there are only about 11 cottages...book early.

Many motel/hotel rooms just a few minutes away....but the best is staying at Goose Pond.

Last night I recieved a phone call asking me if I'd cook for a fundraiser at Goose Pond in Scottsboro in September. I agreed to do it if I can get a room with a kitchen for the prep work I'll need to do. Just called Goose Pond and my usual room with the kitchen at the Lodge is booked. Since this is a fundraiser that supports the Red Cross there I'm trying to see if I can get a reduced rate on a cottage. In the past we have served well over 500 participants and workers. I don't expect this year to be any different. Not sure exactly what the food will be but I've done gumbo and jambalaya before and they absolutely loved it.

While on the phone with Megan at Goose Pond she told me that there are still five cottages available for Kegtoberfest weekend. Get you reservations in!

Alrighty! Not like I don't have anything going on enough in my life but, It's time to get working on this event! Not that it ever stopped. Lol.....
I have some small goodies to go into the "Goody Bags" that I hope people appreciate and will use.  Sometimes the small stuff is more useful on an everyday basis than other stuff.
Now I just have a simple question for those attending. Since I will most likely NOT be hauling a loaded trailer to Scottsboro which will mean a reduction of space for bringing some things I'm going to ask you all a question which at first you may think isn't really relative but it truly is. What Louisiana dish would you all most prefer?
A good gumbo or a jambalaya? Or maybe something else?
Crawfish ready to cook can be pretty expensive and I wish I could share with you all ALL the flavors of Louisiana but sometmes budgets have limitations and please don't missunderstand and think I am asking for anything monetarilywise but there is also only so much time too to enjoy eating all the great foods cooked on the Keg. I'm just trying to figure out which foods were best enjoyed That I did at  last year's Kegtoberfest so I can kind of figure out what to bring and cook.

Memories are such a wonderful thing.  Everything was so good, gumbo, jambalaya, chargrilled oysters, muffaletta, boudin  mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............Enjoyed all of them.

Nate, don't think I am being evasive here with this answer but ANYTHING you want to cook I will enjoy immensely! No BS, it's all good. You make what you want to make and I am positive there will be smiling faces!

My goodness, the memories are flooding back. All of that great food and great company! Dan cooking the Sahlen's, BamaPat with the sweet potato casserole, Alex's pizza and brisket, Cory's 50 pounds of ribs and bbq, Nate's whole tour of Louisiana, it was all just fantastic! I will do my best to keep up, lol.

Oh, I failed to mention Rich's steaks, Dan's sausage (not THAT sausage), Larry's Scallops........never ending food. Sun up to sun down. I also recall a certain blond girl drinking something out of a test tube and getting loopy. Good times!!

For anyone on the fence about coming, if you can make it, you owe it to yourself. We're all like family and it's even better in person. What can I say? I love you guys :) ;)

So Larry, thank you for contacting them and mentioning our little event to them. The exact day and time of the demo is yet to be established but it will most likely be Friday or Saturday afternoon. They'll be making their trek from Minneapolis MN ariving on Thursday to join us.

I didn't want to be the only one not packing ... I actually googled to see if visitors could could carry weapons .. with some measure of confidence ... at least in some states... it would be the case lol!!

nope ... not legally, not that I can find. See gun control works.  ;D

Coming is just not in cards I'm afraid ... behind target at work, I'm the only one who can do my job (well) and if I take off for a week everything will bog down in our little Fibre To The Home (FTTH) operation ... everyone in the company stands to lose a significant bonus if we fail to meet our target by year end so taking a week off for a cross continent trip isn't a very savvy move. Our construction season can go into December with good luck, but can end early November with bad luck. Now if we were well ahead of target at this point no problem. Maybe next year.  8)

Bummer, that's a shame. Stephanie was really looking forward to shooting meeting you :) :P

I hope we have more people show up than last year. I know it's a big commitment for those in the Northern states and Canada to come down to Alabama, so I understand the desire to come but the practicality of not being able to. I personally wouldn't make a trip like that, no offense to anyone. I have limited time off even though I am self employed. It's actually much harder for me to take time off than it was for me to do it while under the umbrella of a big company. I had paid vacation in those days. Now it's real simple, if I don't work I don't get paid.

So Shawn, if there is one next year, maybe we'll see you there!

As of right now I'm not committing to anything beyond this year. Alabama or elsewhere. It's a lot to stay on top of.

BTW, Alabama does have or at least they did, I don't know if anything has channed but they did have pretty stringent gun laws.

Bummer, that's a shame. Stephanie was really looking forward to shooting meeting you :) :P ...
If that's the case, well, dying sucks and frankly, if I had to choose, having Steph put me down with her pink gun ranks just below old age, instantaneous death by meteor/lightning strike, atomic holocaust vaporization while I'm sleeping, spontaneous human explosion and accidental food poisoning from someone else's bad bbq. What can I say, I'm a fan.  ;D PS: just to be clear I did search but was merely curious if US visitors can carry handguns. It appears your right to bear arms is only extended to citizens. Thinking back I recall no handgun vending machines in any US airports I have visited. Jeeze, I'm sure the NSA is watching me now.  ;D

....I hope we have more people show up than last year. I know it's a big commitment for those in the Northern states and Canada to come down to Alabama, so I understand the desire to come but the practicality of not being able to. I hope you have more people too! From Calgary there are no direct flights. At a minimum I wanted to come a day ahead, and leave a day behind, then have a day off to recover, that's a week. To be honest I'd rather take two of my four weeks vacation, bring my wife and visit Florida as well. Never been there.

...So Shawn, if there is one next year, maybe we'll see you there!
I wish I was in a position in my life where my job didn't matter but that's the case. This is now two years in a row I have chosen this startup company over where I really want to be. I'd better get some payback.

I'd love to get down there and meet y'all (or in plural, all y'all) but vacations are booked for the remainder of the year for us and it's a hell of a ride to Alabama from Massachusetts. Not sure how the Keg would fare on the hitch of the truck for 1200 miles.  :) I could just see us stopping at rest areas, firing Bubba up and being there for hours entertaining questions and feeding other travelers. Hmm, that might just turn out to be a business opportunity....

Have a great time and keep the fires hot.

I drive down from CT sans Keg.....you can drive with me if you like..I'm near Hartford.  Leaving on the 20th of October stop at Harrisonburg, VA and on to Scottosboro on the 21st.  That makes it 2 8 hrs drives.  Return on the 25th, same stop back.

I didn't think you were going.

Cant say for sure until it gets closer.  Last year my daughter birthday was Thursday so I had to wait until Friday morning to leave.  Which sucks with a 11 hour ride.  This year its on Friday.  I'm not thinking its a kid friendly event so bringing the family's not an option.

Darren, who lives in Huntsville AL called me a while ago about the fundraiser I'm going to Scottsboro AL right after Labor Day. I ask him what the temperature is there and he says it's 90 degrees while it's 98 here in southeast Louisiana. I'm hoping they get a blast of Kegtoberfest type air/weather we had last October there in time for the triathlon. It was a cooker out there today!

Two months from today we'll be waking up on a beautiful(I hope I don't jinx us)Saturday morning at Kegtoberfest 2015. Some will probably while drinking that first "morning" cup of coffee thinking "did that really happen last night". Lol....... Just kidding! But they might be thinking about the great time and awesome food they are enjoying.

I'll be heading up to Scottsboro AL to cook for a Red Cross fundraiser in a little over two weeks. Staying in one of the cabins at Goose Pond to be able to do all the prep work for the cook early on Sept. 12. Cooking up a big pot of jambalaya for over 400 triathlon participants and volunteers. I might cook up 15-20 gallons of red beans too.

Pat and I were just talking about it yesterday.  Trying to figure out what we could do this year, ordered some goodies to bring with and pass out.  Pat will probably do her sweet potato souffle again since everyone seemed to enjoy it.  I thought about cooking some of the Shizzle ribs as an app. Also some stuffed peppadews.
I was looking through the photos from last year, holy cow did we have a bunch of food!  Was wondering how many kegs would be available.  Anyone heard from BBQ Rich?

Pat has convinced many that thought they didn't like sweet potatoes with that recipe.  It's always fun watching them, "well, maybe just a bite".  Followed by "are there more?"   ;D

I think many folks idea of sweet 'taters is those canned yams heated in a pan with marshmallows melted in them.

I was thinking so that we don't go into meat overload that we have different volunteers to cook the meat for each meal. Instead of several meats at one meal. Then others can contribute a side of such. I guess that's sorta what we did last time. Maybe the first night we could go out to that restaurant again. Just brainstorming.

Eating at the Docks again wouldn't be a bad idea. That way no one would have to travel, get there and unload and then start cooking.
I might contribute a pot of red beans and rice to add to a meal. Maybe a jambalaya at another. We still have time to plan out the meals.

We do still have a lodge room or two available. I'll be at Goose Pond next week so I'll check on things then.

Correct. I had to cancel due to work.

Being honest here. i really wanted to go but I have to take care of job and home first. My new job seemed easy enough to plan my work but things happen and we hire new people and when we do my schedule gets changed.

It sucks sometimes but I love my new job and it will take me to retirement and be very good for me.

You guys rub it in, but I gotta put in a few more years before I am free.

It's such a beautiful area!  http://forum.bigsteelkeg.com/index.php?topic=16789.0  There are stil Lodge rooms available and if we don't get those booked we may have issues pullin g off this years Kegtoberfest. That's what I was thinking too. That'd be a shame. That's the magic of booking the lodge. Bob, you may want to cancel the cottage and book a lodge room ;) We need to make sure only keggers are going to be there so we CAN do what we did last year. Otherwise, what's the point of going if we can't have free run of the lodge?

We are expecting guests and will need the two bedrooms, two baths the cottages offer.  I'm holding out hope that BBQ Rich and Broil King come through like they did last year and book the remaining rooms in the lodge.  Worked out well as I recall as someone ended up taking them.
On the other hand, if I wasn't a kegger and booked a lodge room for the weekend I sure as hell wouldn't complain about having to spend a weekend making great friends and partying in the parking lot eating great food and enjoying Larry's libation station.  But as you know from you're experience as a business owner there's always and ahole being and ahole because that's just what they do.

Just read Nate's post in another thread:

We were in Cottage #8. Super nice!
I can almost see the whole event taking place right across the roadway from the cottages. The have electricity for boat owners charging batteries right there. Of course that could be cost prohibitive and that's a lot of cottages to book when we can't fill the lodge alone this year.

Maybe the lodge guests could transfer to the cottages and fully book them.  We'd have a lot more kitchens, more room, (not that we need it), more parking......

Michael, Skins, Cottage 2
Corey, Yanknrebel Cottage 3
Bob, BamaPat Cottage 4
I bet Dan, Billsfan/Pantherfan Cottage 5
Larry, Focuspuller Cottage 6?

I think there are 11 cottages.  Still a stretch.

We are on for having a demo being put on by UMAi Dry® http://www.drybagsteak.com/  in the afternoon on Saturday at Kegtoberfest 2015. They will be arriving on Friday afternoon so I invited them to join us either before or after settling in at their campsite for cocktails, ice cold beer and good eats. At the demo they will have goodies for sampling and show everyone there how easy it is to use their fantastic products.

Thank you Larry for the hookup!!!!!!!!

I've been using the UMAI products since this past July.

I did a Strip Sirloin for 28 days, (I now have one aging for 35 days).

(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/focuspuller2/steak%20aging_zps0r6tkxxv.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/focuspuller2/media/steak%20aging_zps0r6tkxxv.jpg.html)

The 28 day one was so tender and beefy tasting, I figured a little more aging would not hurt.

Started out as a 13lb piece and ended up at about 10.5 lbs before trimming off fat.

These are the results.... 1.75 inch steaks.

(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/focuspuller2/steak%20trimmed_zpstsbxfxh7.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/focuspuller2/media/steak%20trimmed_zpstsbxfxh7.jpg.html)

Also did a cured and dry aged pork loin, "LOMO".  Can out very tasty.

I'm sure those attending Kegtoberfest 2015 will not be disappointed with the products to taste and how easy it is to do.

Who all is bringing a keg? Rich, how many are making the ride with you this round? The reason I ask is that I doubt I will bring a keg this year, not really wanting to rent a truck just to haul a keg. I know last year there were plenty to cook on, I can just use one of Rich's or whomever has one I can use if that's okay.

This sucks!!
Received this today, I have our cottage booked for 3 nights @ $200/night.  If I would have waited I could have saved $150.

On the other hand, anyone on the fence, now is the time to book.  Great deal.

I've been using the UMAI products since this past July.

I did a Strip Sirloin for 28 days, (I now have one aging for 35 days).

(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/focuspuller2/steak%20aging_zps0r6tkxxv.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/focuspuller2/media/steak%20aging_zps0r6tkxxv.jpg.html)

The 28 day one was so tender and beefy tasting, I figured a little more aging would not hurt.

Started out as a 13lb piece and ended up at about 10.5 lbs before trimming off fat.

These are the results.... 1.75 inch steaks.

(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b541/focuspuller2/steak%20trimmed_zpstsbxfxh7.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/focuspuller2/media/steak%20trimmed_zpstsbxfxh7.jpg.html)

Also did a cured and dry aged pork loin, "LOMO".  Can out very tasty.

I'm sure those attending Kegtoberfest 2015 will not be disappointed with the products to taste and how easy it is to do.

I haven't used my drybag system a lot but I think you want to get those bags tighter.

The whole slab was very dark brown...Cut away most of this crust.  Cut steaks to thickness wanted, then trimmed off remainder of dark area.

So one or two got lucky. Like I said and I know because I get the same email almost every month. They have open/available rooms in the month of October the same as they did sor September and are simply looking to fill those rooms. Like a sale. Soemtimes you get lucky like Bob ad Larry did and sometime not. Maybe they didn't expect the networking aspect of room renters. Maybe those rooms won't have toilet paper when needed. Lol..........

I want to say something.
For so long so many talked about wanting to have this type of get together among fellow Keg owners/lovers. Actually dating back to 2009. At one point I threw out the question about "hypothetically having such an event" many replied saying they wanted to attend. Finally last year I took it upon myself to organize the first ever Keg get together "Kegtoberfest 2014". We didn't have a huge crowd but those that came enjoyed themselves and had more than enough fantastic food to eat and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Great memories were made. There were prizes, swag from Broil King and lots of great moments crammed into just a few days. I halfway expected more people to attend this year's Kegtoberfest 2015 and I completely understand work issues getting in the way. It's looking like this year's event may be about the same size or even a tad bit smaller. This is not the easiest thing to do when one doesn't have complete control of everything that's going on at such an event. Like I said work gets in the way of life but this may well be the last such organized event.
We have a business coming in on Oct. 23rd and doing a demo on the 24th in the early to mid afternoon. We potentially had two other businesses that were somewhat interested in coming to do a demo but I can't have them come from long distances for such a small crowd of Keg owners. That would be an embarrassment to me and Broil King. I know this message won't mean much to many but it's just something I had to get off my chest. I really do wish more would consider joining the hardcore of Keg owners at Goose Pond for as I see it to still be a successful and enjoyable event. It's just a shame so many others will miss out on possibly the last such event.

Actually no she doesn't. We aren't the only people to book the lodge and cottages. We're lucky to be able to have the event we have without having to pay extra for clean up, security, party are rental. Just in case no one realizes they could make us pay extra to have basically free run of the area we use. o one bothers us and we actually do save money having the event where we are having it. This allows for more to be spent on food and drink.

Agreed, it's basic really. If you had talked about coming, then come. It'll be a good time I can promise you that. I know that traveling long distances is not something most of us are wanting to do and I understand that part, really I do. This, barring a miracle or someone else taking the reigns in another part of the country, will be the last of these I am guessing. We only get so many chances to do this and Nate has again taken it upon himself to orchestrate this for OUR benefit. IF you can make arrangements to come this year, don't delay and by all means do so! I'd love to see ALL of you and get to know the people behind the screen names ;)

Hell, I'll even feed ya!!  ;D ;D

Got three more contributors confirmed today so far. Prize wise this year is going to be pretty damn(excuse me!)nice!!!!I'll just say this for right now. Some lucky son of a Kg will be EXTREMELY excited and happy too when they win one of the prizes I got today. They need to have an iPhone or Android phone along with a mobile hotspot or wifi router to use this one particular item but they will be able to hop on a jet and travel and STILL monitor their cook.  ;) ;) ;)
The only catch will be that since these are some very nice prizes this year we will do something a little different so that thos eattending will be happy and we will be contributing to a super worthy cause. Operation BBQ Relief. Still working on how exactly I want to do this but it's for a great organization.

Got the discount, added an extra night, $160/night instead of $200.  Win/Win.  I got an extra night on the cheap, they get more money.  Only one cleaning trip.
The taxes, lodge fee and resort fees are killer.  Added another $100 to the bill, but that's the way it is everywhere.  Money well spent.
Anyone still on the fence jump on the 25% discount and get a cabin if you need the room.  Otherwise the lodge rooms are a bargain.  You won't regret it.  It's one hell of a good time.

Do those of you attending want to do the Blind Gift Giving thing again?
Bring something at a set price range and wrap it or bag it so it's not seen until the person picking it opens and reveals it.

Also another thing we could do is if you make a homemade sauce or rub we could have a swap of whatever is is. Even chcken feet jerky. Lol....... Just kidding! ;D

In the past we discussed having a little Throwdown action but realistically with the amount of food we have it might be a bit overwhelming to do.

Everyone coming bring a case of a locally brewed and bottled beer and we have a swap of however many beers equal out among those attending. You won't necessarily have to drink them then and there but a neat way to share different local(to the attendee)beer.

I want you all to know that I suffer for you guys. Lol...... Today I had to finally break down and go for an injection, actually two at the base of two fingers in the upper part of the right palm of my hand. I had been having pain and it was getting progressively more painful. I didn't sleep well at all last night. So I go in to the doctor and get the injections, come home and a while later UPS delivers two big heavy boxes. I struggle to just get them inside the door with one good hand and accidentally force my bad hand open. That was the second time I almost hit the ceiling today in pain. Lol......  I did finally get both heavy boxes inside after a few choice words and a couple of screams from pain.
See how I suffer for you.  ;D ;D

Sure. Anything that can be used outdoors saves us from cooking inside.

Late yesterday afternoon as I was cutting the grass in the yard I decided to light the fire pit. Love the smell of burning wood. After finishing with the grass and cleaning up I sat down with a cold beer enjoying the fire but I got to thinking about the fire pit at Kegtoberfest. Last year we were lucky and Darren had a dead tree in his yard so I asked him to cut it up and bring it to the lodge. He brought a pickup truck bed loaded and we used every bit of it. I called him to see if he had or knew of where we could get wood for this year. He says he doesn't and I asked him to ask around. It's looking like we may be buying wood for the evening fire we all sat around enjoying. He's going to see what he can find out this week. I know I asked everyone that came last year to bring firewood but even if we did that again I don't think it will be enough.

I'll bring what I can fit in the van like last year.

If you want to find a place that has some I am sure we can all pitch in a little cash to buy it. I bet you can find it locally and have it delivered for fairly cheap. $10.00 a head should cover it. That way no one has to bring any. I know I can't fit any in Steph's Acura. We're going to be loaded to the hilt as it is I'm betting.

Yeah you can probably get a big load for about $80 delivered.

Speaking of a loaded vehicle, we need to start making that list if you haven't already of things you need to or may want to have.

Zip lock bags(gallon size)for leftovers. If there are any. Lol.....
Ice chest
A good folding chair..... Last year we had quite a few casualties(broken chairs) but that may have been related to the amount of food we consumed. ;D
Camera to capture the great times and foods.
Whatever antacid works best for you.... to releave your discomfort after eating too much. ;D

If you add something to the list please copy and paste to your reply and add whatever to the list.

We were at risk of not being able to have Kegtoberfest as nice and spread out as we did last year. It was a stressful couple of hours but suing my charm and pictures from last year's event I was able to get the clearance for us to have it in the same exact spot. Made my day!

At one time the Lodge was completely booked, with cancellations this changed the deal from having complete control of the Lodge area to not. It's a shame it had to be that way and from the get go the deal was to have the whole Lodge booked to not have to rent an area 1/4 mile away from the accommodations.  I'm still not crazy about the potential to have strangers complain about noise, too much good food and drink or God forbid a Big Green Egg owner at the Lodge. ;D ;D

Grillin' in Cin and Grillin' in Cin Chefess are planning on coming.  Not definite yet, they'll be staying with us in our cottage.
My sister and her husband are also planning on being there, they'll be staying in the campground.
they're both asking what they can bring or fix?
I suggested a potato dish for Friday night with the steaks, limburger cheese and head cheese
I think Grillin' in Cin Chefess is also planning on baked beans.
Any other suggestions?
I'll add their items to the menu when I firm them up.

Can we get a Keg count? I really need to know how many we're going to have so I can figure out how I am going to cook what I need to cook. Rich, how many are you bringing? Bob, I assume that you're not bringing yours. Larry is not bringing his. Bills isn't sure if he's coming so I can't count on his Bubba so what does that leave us? Darren is not bringing his, Corey might be bringing one but he's not coming down until Friday from what I hear. Nate I doubt will have room to bring one of his. If Rich brings 3 and Corey brings 1, that'll be 4. I don't think that's going to cut the mustard quite honestly. I brought mine last year and allowed others to use it, I was hoping for that to be reciprocated this year. Alex won't be along to bring his either so......we are going to need some Kegs for sure. Kind of crazy to have a KEGtoberfest w/o kegs isn't it?

I may be bringing mine but it depends on how much room I have in my Sequoia. I may need to use the hitch to carry ice chest on.

Alright, I didn't WANT to rent a truck to come to KF2015. I wanted to just bring our car. Nice heated leather seats, navigation, XM radio, plenty of power, comfortable. I will forgo that in order to bring a keg I suppose. We have decided to rent a stinkin' truck after all. This is subject to change still but that's the direction I am leaning as of right now. Nah, not going that route. I don't think I would want to do that to an Acura TL, lol. The truck route will also save wear and tear on her car as well as keep the miles off of it. I could probably load it in the back of my daughter's scion xb though. That little sucker has lots of room. The only issue is that she has a vanity plate on it. LILDOLL. LOL, made me think of the Gong Show.  That Chuck Barris was an entertainment genius.

I had thought that since you mentioned there is live entertainment on Thursday nights that that would be the night to make reservations not Wednesday.  Could be 12-16 of us Thursday night?

Alright here's the wood deal. We can have a guy deliver a half dually pickup(Not sure if the truck bed is bigger than a regular pickup)for $50.00. That's unloading it at the Lodge. Breaks down to 5-7 bucks a member. Let me know what you guys think. Beats buying and bringing or going to pick up from somewhere.

Larry, you and I will be there Wednesday evening. We can settle up then.
I asked that the wood be delivered Thursday after lunch and I'll actually try to have it unloaded nearer to the fire pit area.

I have cookie dough made, ready to freeze and food saver until next week! I'll save you the trouble of counting, it's 67. I am wondering if that will be enough, I guess it all depends on how many each person wants I guess. As it stands, looks like 3 per person.

Great deal.
Sounds like a plan, gotta have wood for the fest!!

As it turns out we couldn't get that deal for work reasons with the guy.
We are now getting a pickup bed load for $70.00 delivered on Thursday afternoon. Higher price but more wood too. Sorry about the other deal not working out.

It wouldn't hurt to have it. If you have a folding table or two you could bring that that would be great.

I'm bringing a 10x20 and two 10x10's

Is anyone bringing string lights?  Those worked well last year.

Caj - I've been knocked out with a cold all weekend, mostly functional today.  Not good timing.

All I have is one more day in front of me until we head out for KF2015!!

Nothing much going on today so I made some sauce for the brisket and might even get to work prepping moinks. Steph is doing a burn off on the old keg. We'll season the grate up later and be done with that.

We portioned out the goodies that Rich over at Mad Hunky sent Stephanie and we bought some local beers today to share with y'all. Still lots to do before we head out Thursday.

It should be worth it all though!!! ;D ;D

It's beginning to look a lot like KegFest
Over in Scottsboro
Just follow your nose to the rolling smoke
It's the day after tomorrow!

It's beginning to look a lot like KegFest
Larry with his Libations,
Get drunk as a skunk like some of us
From Canada and this great nation.

Steph's in a pair of hopalong boots with a pink pistol that shoots
So make sure she gets no moonshine
Shrimp that surf and whisky pie for dessert
We'll pray that no one gets hurt this time  ;D

It's beginning to look a lot like KegFest
Ev'rywhere you go;
There'll be kegs at the lodge cooking for all
There'll even be a dry aged steak demo!!

It's beginning to look a lot like KegFest
It's time to scream and shout.
This might be the last one, so let's make it a good one
You REALLY don't want to miss out!

from page one of this thread...

"Yes, you are reading this correctly.

Please pm me to let me know if you plan to attend."

I went to a meeting last night and wore my Kegtoberfest 2015 shirt, I had four people show interest in the Keg because of seeing the picture of the Keg 5000 on the shirt.  When I explained the ability to put it on a hitch they were even more interested. If more people could see them in person I bet more Kegs would sell.
