Title: Kegtoberfest 2014 Attendees
Post by: Cajunate on September 16, 2014, 02:15:49 PM
If this thread could be "stickied" under the "Kegtoberfest 2014.... A Keg Owner Get Together!!!" that would be great.

Please stay on topic here and not stray from the point of this thread. This is for necessary info needed.

For attendees:

Please let me know when you will be arriving at the Goose Pond Colony for Kegtoberfest and how many will accompany you and when you are planning to leave for home.

We will be able to have a bon fire in the evenings but we need to bring our own firewood.
Will anyone coming be driving up in a pickup truck that they could throw some firewood in the back for the fire?

We should be able to do that. We have one of those outdoor firepits we could bring or do you think that would be too small?

They already have two spots for fires. I wouldn't bring yours just so you don't have so much to bring or take home.

i'll throw some in the back of the truck. I've got some about 3 feet long not split that would go good on top of a hot fire and it will save me from cutting them up  ;D

When packing to go to Kegtoberfest remember to bring a few extra things like a box of 1 gallon Ziploc bags and a few containers that you can seal a lid on and keep on ice. Maybe quart size mason jars. Your best working antacid/acid reducer medication, Alka Seltzer and whatever else may help you overcome eating too much or too well. Lol.......

Good advice Nate. I know a lot of people, myself included, get heartburn from too much smoked food. It doesn't always get to me but when it does, it's BAD!

For all attending you might want to start making a list of everything you might need.

Stuff like tongs and so on. I'd also suggest you mark whatever you bring witha Sharpie marker so you get things returned to you should they be left sitting around.

I have a couple of outdoor games for activities during the day but I want to add something for one of the evenings. This is something usually done at Christmas parties but I think it would be fun for Kegtoberfest. It's a gift stealing game. I'll explain it but I'm thinking about a suggested price range of spending approx. $15.00 per gift. If you want to and we'll include guests as well, if you want to participate you must provide a gift. Now it's not Christmas so so won't require the gift be wrapped but instead simply put in a brown paper bag.

Here's how it goes.....
All gifts are placed on a table in the middle and everyone playing draws a number from a hat/box or charcoal bag. We start at number one and they select a gift. They open it and we move on to #2 who gets to either steal #1's gift or select from the pile of gifts. If they steal #1's gift  then 1 gets to select a gift again. Then #3 either steals or selects a gift and so on. The person who has their gift stolen can steal someone elses gitf or select a new one.

What do you think? Sound like a fun time?

As for gift ideas, it's got to be bbq related such as sauces, rubs, a utensil, maybe a couple of six packs of beer(yes, that IS bbq related), anything grilling or bbq related.

I'm not sure I will make it before KF. I could just drive to CT and get it. If I leave now, I could probably be there in time for lunch tomorrow. You could throw a prime rib on the keg. ;D

For those attending Kegtoberfest 2014 below is a map(and a link)to get to the business office. where you need to go to to check in and the map to the lodge area.

Link......  This is the link to the map of Goose Pond Colony Resort. You can switch to the satellite mode and zoom in and out. http://goosepond.org/about/map-and-directions/

Map....

On tha map, the orange and yellow flag is where the business office is located. It's located on the left as you drive into the resort. Not as soon as you turn in but maybe a quarter to half mile in if I remember correctly.
From the BO the Cottages and Lodge will be on your right as you drive into the resort. The green box is where the Cottages are located and the blue box is where the Lodges is located. Hopefully we will have a flag or banner up for you to see where Kegtoberfest will take place. For those staying in a cottage you can go and unload there first and either drive over to the lodge or if you'd like you can take a nice walk on the walking trail to the Lodge.

I will be staying in the lower level in the middle of the Lodge. I believe the room number is #3. We may even be under the canopy enjoying a refreshingly cold beverage and you might even be able to just follow your nose to the smell of the seafood gumbo simmering and a Keg smoking away..

Here's the finished product...
Didn't pull it yet but took a taste and it was the best I ever made.
Took a bit longer than I estimated...stalled at 180° for over 5 hours.
I figured it would be finished at about 7PM...well it's 3 AM the next day.

That's why I asked what temp you were cooking at. I had a feeling it was going to be a late night. On the bright side, you got to watch those late night infomercials that nobody else gets to see. Pork looks great, BTW.

Alright, I know elsewhere othere than here in southeast Louisiana you may be experiencing cooler weather and might even find the mid 40's to be short sleeve weather but I just want to put it out there that that will be the average in the evenings at Kegtoberfest 2014. Please bring whatever you'll need to be comfortable as we are going to be on the water's edge and it might be nippy(I love that word! NIPPY!!!!! Lol....)
Also, we will have chairs for sitting around the table eating and well, let's say preventing dehydration but don't forget to bring a folding lounge or camp chair for sitting 'round the bonfire.

I might have found a source for firewood there so stay tuned to see if it's still necessary to bring any. If it's something you want to get rid of but not trash go ahead and still bring it. I'm sure any wood left will be used by others after us.

I'm trying to get some New Orleans Community Coffee for us to enjoy but we may need a BIG coffee maker. I think it would be nice to have fresh coffee out by the tent in the mornings where we will congregate.

Lol..... Thank YOU guys!
Wait!

I'm back!! Lol............... This is truly ironic!
As I am replying to you rpost, my dogs start going crazy barking at the front door.
I'm thinking Finally! It's the UPS guy delivering the new case for my daughter's new I Phone 6 right.
I go to the door and there's a Fed Ex guy with a hand truck delivering another fantastic donation!!!!
I won't spoil it and tell you what but I will say this. I have NOT tried to get any donation for anything I wouldn't buy(chances are I've bought it already)myself and none of the items I've gotten are crappy things.
Oh, so I reach down to pick up the boxes and they are HEAVY. I see the return address on the shipping label and just about break out into a happy dance like a kid on Christmas morning. This is some gooooood stuff!!!! in fact I just used some of this same product(different flavor though)about an hour and a half ago.

Anyway, I know you guys(and gal)are going to love this stuff and all the other thingsI've gotten. I just hope you all don't start fighting over them.
A word to the wise. If you're smart you might consider bring something you can use to barter with for some of these items. Lol...........

Making phone calls and not happy what I'm hearing. Trying to line up the fresh shucked ousters to bring but the prices have gone up recently. Maybe a couple more calls will work.

Because of time shortage I'm going to pick up shrimp today peel them, clean 'em and foodsaver them then into the freezer they will go. Maybe the same for the crabs.

Will they be wearing KEGS held up by suspenders?

Okay, finally finished, with my wife's help of course. Peeling and deveining 20 pounds of shrimp. A couple of pounds may have made their way to the freezer for future meals and the wife like the way they looked so much she decided to make a shrimp fettucine for dinner tonight.
So 20 minus 3 pounds equals a lot of shrimp that will go into the seafood gumbo next friday at Kegtoberfest 2014. Tomorrow I'll pick up the crabs(live) and clean those and like the shrimp will be Foodsavered and frozen for the trek to Goose Pond.

Anybody want to pick up some condiments like mustard and mayo?
There's always the Wal Mart and other stores if not.

I am thinking about making some jalapeno cheddar corn muffins to go with the brisket chili, any objections to that?

Whooooo.......!!! I'm worn out! Just got back from running around getting stuff I need for the gumbo and more. Time for a cold Yuengling and getting ready to slaughter some fresh crabs for the Kegtoberfest Seafood Gumbo and make a lil more stock since I have the shells that will be thrown away anyway. In Louisiana nothing goes to waste! LOl.....

Crabs done!
Chopped 10 pounds of onions. No I'm not using that much in on dish. Some are for the Seafood Gumbo and some for the Jambalaya. ::)
Chopped 4 stalks of celery.
Cut up andouille for jambalaya.
Sliced andouille for gumbo.
Diced up tasso.

Just have the chicken which will be smoked closer to leaving and slice up some more smoked sausage for the jambalaya.
Making roux tomorrow
Mixing a compound butter for at least my steak.  ;) ;D
Mixing butter for char broiled oysters romorrow.

Between the tasso, andouille and onions it smells pretty darn good in here for nothing being cooked.

Looks like an excellent weather forecast for Scottsboro. Shorts during the day and long pants in the evening. No rain in sight, either.

Caj, the 5 year old sharp cheddar and bag of garlic curds would be my suggestion.

Alright, everyone that's leaving for Goose Pond tomorrow ready?
Still need to throw some boxes into the truck and whip up the butter for the char grilled oysters. Then just finish packing my clothes and I think I'll be done for the night. I'm exhausted!

Steph is still asleep but when she gets up she's going to the store for some last minute things and then we'll finish packing. I'm picking up a rental truck and will load her up and be on our way around 2 or so!

No more than anyone else, I just don't have a truck anymore so I had to rent one. If I wasn't bringing a keg I would've drove one of my cars.
